Social Responsibility of MU Libraries

We are not merely carriers and mediators of knowledge – at MU Libraries, we actively strive to engage in activities that are useful to society.

Services for the Wider Professional Community

MU Library services are accessible to everyone, and we believe that we have a lot to offer the professional community – consultations, study spaces, access to selected licensed electronic resources from local computers, and book loans. Membership can be obtained for a nominal annual fee, and Masaryk University graduates can get it free of charge thanks to their Alumni Card.

Services for Students with Disabilities

All MU libraries are wheelchair accessible. We provide specific support to students with special needs, particularly those with reading disabilities, through the Teiresiás Center library. The library digitizes study materials for students who cannot work effectively with standard documents. Subsequently, it offers access to publications in special formats – in electronic versions adapted for users of assistive technologies, tactile prints for the blind, and hybrid publications. Registered users have online access to electronic documents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Events for the Public

MU libraries regularly and continuously participate in educational events aimed at both the academic community and the general public – examples include Brno Libraries Day, Researchers' Night, the Education Festival, MUNI DAY, etc.

Selected libraries also regularly participate in the international event Night with Andersen and organize entertaining and educational evenings for the children of university employees in the library premises, sometimes even with the possibility of overnight stays.
